Week 11 Activity

I am going to be doing the following activities from Chapter 8 with Liv:

I am choosing the first two activities because Liv relates well to people's feelings and their attitudes.  I am choosing the last one because I feel that it is important for students to be able to determine what the most important part of a story is, or what the turning point is.  I believe I am going to do these activities with the book Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon because Liv was pretty upset that she missed last week's activities and seemed interested in the book.  It is also a great book to do these particular activities with.

  1. Heather,

I think it's great that you're designing your activities based off of Liv's strengths as a reader. Knowing your students is key when designing instruction differentiated to their individual needs. I also think it's great that you're going to use the same book for last weeks lesson since Liv was so interested in reading the story. Again, knowing your students preferences, especially books they enjoy reading, only make the lesson more enjoyable, engaging, and allows the reader to more easily tap into the reading process. Great job! I look forward to seeing the results!

  2. I really love that you're working on building your reader's confidence! I think that this is a major part of what classifies a reader as "struggling." I also liked that you weren't rushing her onto the next book. You're allowing some student choice in the matter. That's awesome!

  3. I agree that Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is a great book to work with when doing these activities! That is why I have chosen to use it throughout the rest of the activities that we will be doing. I had done the activity asking if Molly Lou would make a good friend the previous week, but just in a discussion so I did not record any of the answers. I think Liv will like that activity!
